Orange Winding Flower

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its orange stems grow in bunches of 4 and are thin with a curved tip, and the miniature, silver leaves are very narrow and elongated with ripped edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 2 to 8 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with solid purple petals decorated with crimson dots and a cyan central disk. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 44 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like candle wax, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
