Copperberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, dark brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is black with white speckles.

The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of large, triangular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and copper.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, green blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like lemon.

In mid-autumn it produces , circular fruit. The crispy vivid blue skin is thick and spicy and sour, and the crunchy blood red flesh is sour and syrupy. The cream seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
