Turquoise Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 74 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, angular trunk covered in smooth, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale yellow.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in yellow and sky blue varieties.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, pink blossoms with fan-like petals. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like cherry.

In early summer it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The waxy amber skin is thin and sweet, and the very soft turquoise flesh is spicy and savoury and oily. The pale orange seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
