Lilac

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of huge, broad, flat leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are lilac and red.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, caramel blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In early winter it produces , 7 pointed fruit. The fuzzy yellow skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy red flesh is savoury and sticky. The light brown seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
