Purplefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, twisting trunk covered in delicate, smooth, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is pine-coloured.
The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid turquoise or beige, with purple edges.
In early spring, it produces clusters of small, brilliant red blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.
In early autumn it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The clammy faded purple skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and juicy. The gold seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
