Violetberry

This massive fruit tree grows up to 68 feet (20.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, twisting trunk covered in knobbly, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, slender, pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either lilac, or grey with violet lines.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, silver blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like rotten eggs.

In early autumn it produces small, oblong fruit. The smooth ashy blue skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the very soft grey flesh is spicy and juicy. The orange seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
