Turquoiseberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, angular trunk covered in fine, waxy, light brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.

The excessive amount of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small bunches of tiny, spiral leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either olive, or aquamarine with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, slate blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like wet dog.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The hairy turquoise skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is sour and savoury, and the crunchy aquamarine flesh is sweet and syrupy. The cream seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
