Indigo

This big fruit tree grows up to 39 feet (11.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in thin, silky, silver bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black with white speckles.

The numerous branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of huge, very thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either caramel or dark green, with indigo splotches.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, black blossoms with needle-like petals. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like meat.

In late summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The hairy gold skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft yellow flesh is spicy and sour and sticky. The light grey seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
