Grayfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in very thick, silky, gray bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of small, perforated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are gray with white tips.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, red blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like rich perfume.

In early winter it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The sticky lilac skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy yellow flesh is spicy and salty and very juicy. The bronze seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
