Magenta Fruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 54 feet (16.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in thick, cracked, yellow bark, and inside, the dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are short and thick and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, wispy leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either blood red, or magenta with silver streaks.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of large, grey blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like vomit.

In early winter it produces very large, spherical fruit. The fuzzy cream skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sour and savoury, and the soft magenta flesh is sweet and sour and oily. The slate seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
