Sunset Bloom

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized flower grows up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. Its gray stem is very thin, and the huge, vivid yellow leaves are stiff, pointed with irregular edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

6 to 11 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with grey petals that gradient shift to ashy orange on the outer edge. The central disk is lilac. The flower head is largely flat with several raised round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like a man, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It blooms only at night.
