Redwood Lily

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big flower grows up to 6.8 feet (2.1 meters) tall. Its yellow stem is thick, and the large, gray or olive leaves are very narrow and elongated with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

3 to 5 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 49 cm (19.3 inches) wide, with solid blood red petals and a green central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 curved petals. They fall easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like cheese, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator.

The grains are bitter, but very healthy and slightly savoury.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It is suitable for use as a construction material
