Mahogany

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 179 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous branched, slanted stems covered in paper-thin, cracked, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, finger-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either slate, or muted orange with turquoise dots, flimsy and smooth.

In late summer it produces bunches of small, gold flowers with broad, flat petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like rotten meat.

It has impressive regenerative properties.
It can absorb up to 15 times its own weight in water.
