Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, dark gray bark, and inside, the hard wood is pine-coloured.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thin leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either aquamarine, or copper with lilac patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, orange blossoms with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like grass cuttings.

In early summer it produces , oval fruit. The leathery brown skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is sour, and the very soft copper flesh is sweet and syrupy. The bronze seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
