Purple Needleflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. Its green stems grow in bunches of 4 and are thin with a curved tip, and the huge, pink-red leaves are needle-like with serrated edges. 4 leaves grow at the base of the stem.

4 to 7 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are generally florescent purple; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. They are very delicate.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like petrol, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind.
