Copperbrush

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 16 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many wide, angular stems covered in delicate, wrinkled, brown-green speckled bark, and the wood inside is burgundy.

The branches trail down to the ground that and are covered with handfuls of small, wispy, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are indigo on the edges and purple at the center, resilient and sticky.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of small, bronze blossoms with spiral petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like skunk spray.

In early autumn very large fan-like fruits ripen. The fuzzy dark green skin is tough and inedible, and the soft copper flesh is sweet and oily. The cream seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.
