Thorned Aquamarine Caudex

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous caudiciform grows up to 123 feet (37.5 meters) tall. The wide stem is gray-green, and is covered in hundreds of flexible aquamarine spines. The stocky, black trunk can grow to as much as 123 feet (37.5 meters) in diameter. Its burgundy branches are short stubs.

The irregular-edged, spiral leaves are either copper, or olive with faded purple patches. They are rigid, but detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of bronze grow at the top, reappearing once every 8 years. The flower head is largely flat with 42 tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like rotting meat.

The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the white flesh is soft, and the red sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.

It can flourish even in standing water.
