Twistvine Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The thin clumps of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small bunches of tiny, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of deep yellow that gradient shifts to blood red at the top.

In early spring, it produces balls of large, cream blossoms with needle-like petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like fruity.

In late autumn it produces tiny, 9 pointed fruit. The rubbery bright green skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft lime flesh is bitter and sour and powdery. The beige seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
