Goldenwood Berry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wonky trunk covered in very thick, smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is light brown.

The numerous branches are short and thin and are covered with very large amounts of small, spear shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid gold with black streaks.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, green blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like burning wood.

In early summer it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The rubbery crimson skin is stretchy and extremely savoury, and the very soft indigo flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The black seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
