Emerald Sickleflower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Its emerald stems grow in bunches of 8 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the giant, vibrant green leaves are sickle shaped with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Two large flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with solid slate petals decorated with black lines and a blood red central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 43 petals. They fall easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like varnish, and it has lots of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
