Silverleaf Firebloom
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)This big flower grows up to 3.3 feet (99 cm) tall. Its silver stem is thick, and the miniature, orange leaves are spear shaped with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
A single tiny flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with petals that are dark brown on the underside and bold red on the top. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 13 raised, narrow petals. They detach easily.
It has a strong scent that smells like garlic, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
