Clinging Spiceberry

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is white.

The tangled mess of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of small, wide leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are light brown at the bottom and hazel with azure lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces several large, red blossoms with perforated petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like perfume.

In early winter it produces tiny, 2 pointed fruit. The rough silver skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft grey flesh is overwhelmingly spicy and oily. The brown seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
