Coilvine

This colossal fruit tree grows up to 58 feet (17.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in thin, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown.

The numerous branches are very long and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, wide leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are hazel at the bottom and silver with subtle yellow zig-zags at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of small, light grey blossoms with pleated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like leather.

In mid-autumn it produces small, 6 pointed fruit. The rubbery purple skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is slightly sour, and the crunchy pale green flesh is spicy and powdery. The intense red seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
