Burgundy Capsule Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing large areas On rotten logs, and In damp forests.
It is big, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps, and is very rigid.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores.
