Sunfire Trumpet

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thick, and the large, brown leaves are needle-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

A single giant flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 10 cm (3.9 inches) wide, with red petals that gradient shift to silver on the outer edge. The central disk is aquamarine. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of handfuls of widely spaced, narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has no scent, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
