Silverwood Bellflower

This enormous shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 178 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several knobbly, curved stems covered in cracked, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches are long and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of small, asymmetrical, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either purple or azure, with bronze zig-zags, frail and crispy.

In mid-spring it produces thousands of medium-sized, dark blue flowers with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like pine needles.
