King's Hand Tree, Beige

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of huge, thin leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are pale purple and beige.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, gold blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like onion.

In early summer it produces , finger-like fruit. The rubbery beige skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the very soft ashy orange flesh is sweet and salty and powdery. The brown seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
