Waterleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in thick, silky, dark gray bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, finger-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are amber on the sides and bold green at the center.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, hazel blossoms with 8 triangular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like coconut.

In mid-autumn it produces , fan-like fruit. The hairy pink skin is tough and sour, and the soft amber flesh is salty and powdery. The silver seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
