Clinging Mahogany

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, angular trunk covered in thin, smooth, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of huge, broad, flat leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid sky blue with pink patches.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, pink blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like skunk spray.

In mid-autumn it produces , long, straight fruit. The rubbery yellow skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is bitter and salty, and the crunchy blood red flesh is bitter and salty and powdery. The red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
