Waterstem Tree

This small tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 517 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in waxy, brown-green bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of clammy, giant, pleated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are copper on the edges and pink at the center.

In early spring, it produces many giant, brown blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like citrus.

In late summer it forms giant, grey, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
