Bloodleaf Tree

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are short and thin and are covered with small bunches of leathery, huge, wide leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid intense orange or blood red, with grey dots.

In early spring, it produces several tiny, aquamarine blossoms with fan-like petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like blood.

In late summer it forms tiny, light grey, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
