Coppervine

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 104 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, crooked stems covered in paper-thin, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches trail down across the ground that and are covered with very large amounts of huge, long, narrow, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either silver, or white with pink splotches, rigid and smooth.

In late spring it produces several small, blood red blossoms with fan-like petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like warm cookies.

In late autumn tiny long, narrow fruits ripen. The waxy red skin is tough and sweet, and the slightly crunchy white flesh is bitter and salty and oily. The slate seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
