Red Viper Moss

This red moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In marshes, and In bogs.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they are exceptionally hardy, and is very rigid.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release dozens of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
