Bloodberry Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in thin, smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, very thin leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either purple, or blood red with blue dots.

In early spring, it produces bunches of small, cream blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like pine needles.

In late summer it produces small, circular fruit. The hairy pink skin is thick and inedible, and the soft blood red flesh is savoury and sticky. The caramel seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
