Clinging Citrus

This massive fruit tree grows up to 61 feet (18.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The thick clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of large, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are red and bold green.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, bold green blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like citrus.

In mid-summer it produces large, finger-like fruit. The rubbery yellow skin is thick and sweet, and the slightly crunchy lilac flesh is sweet and salty and very dry. The black seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
