Bloodberry Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a thick, slanted trunk covered in hard, waxy, gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is brown.
The numerous branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of huge, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid orange or cream, with cyan zig-zags.
In early spring, it produces handfuls of large, blue blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like musk.
In early winter it produces small, oval fruit. The clammy grey skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is slightly bitter and syrupy. The crimson seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
