Desert Sunflower
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)This average-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is thick, and the miniature, orange-yellow leaves are dark olive and beige on the underside and are needle-like with ripped edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Two medium-sized flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of dark grey. The flower head is largely flat with 15 tightly layered narrow petals. They detach easily.
It has a weak scent that smells like musk, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
