Twistwood

This modest-sized tree grows up to 13 meters (42.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 393 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, twisting trunk covered in delicate, smooth, gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black.

The small bunches of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of rough, tiny, wispy leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach or dark orange, with muted blue streaks.

In late summer it forms small, caramel, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
