Clinging Violetfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 171 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, angular stems covered in very thick, ridged, light brown bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of small, circular, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown at the bottom and violet with turquoise edges at the top, hardy and crispy.

In early summer it produces hundreds of medium-sized, beige blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like a newborn baby.

In mid-autumn small oval fruits ripen. The fuzzy pink skin is tough and slightly sour, and the very soft dark blue flesh is very bitter and very juicy. The muted red seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles

It blooms only at night.
