Ancient Needlepine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2717 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in rough, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is brown.

The sparse patches of branches are short stubs, with dozens of twigs covered with copious amounts of huge, yellow-green needles. The needles themselves are flimsy.

In late summer it produces large, orange, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is difficult to cut through.
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
