Ashberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows, flowers and dies within one year)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in very thick, silky, black bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse patches of branches are long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, circular leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either beige or slate, with crimson edges.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, green blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like ashes.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, circular fruit. The rubbery slate skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy brilliant blue flesh is sweet and very dry. The blood red seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
