Watermelon Bloodflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.9 feet (58 cm) tall. Its emerald stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 7 and are thin and straight, and split into several branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the miniature, lime green leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 4 to 6 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 16 cm (6.3 inches) wide, with blood red petals on the lower layer and black petals decorated with light yellow dots on the inner layer. The central disk is florescent blue. The flower head is largely flat with 49 widely spaced round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like rotten meat, and it has excessive amounts of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
