Zigzag Willow

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 23 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several long and flexible, curved stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, yellow bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches are long and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of small, asymmetrical, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either slate, or gold with bronze zig-zags, durable and smooth.

In early spring it produces lots of tiny, bronze blossoms with many layers of petals. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like musk.

In late autumn slender, 3 pointed fruits ripen. The rubbery yellow skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is bitter and salty, and the soft gold flesh is slightly sour and powdery. The slate seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.
