Copperbark Pine

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 28 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several knobbly, wavy stems covered in fine, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short and slender that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, 5 pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either hazel or washed-out yellow, with yellow dots, tough and clammy.

In mid-summer it produces lots of tiny, hazel blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late autumn small cuboid fruits ripen. The hairy lilac skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy gold flesh is sweet and very juicy. The beige seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.
