Blue Spine Caudex

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This giant caudiciform grows up to 166 feet (50.6 meters) tall. The very thick stem is gray-green, and is covered in handfuls of flexible intense blue spines. It has a slanted, wide, blood red trunk atop a thick ball of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are thick and burgundy and are very short and thick.

The smooth-edged, fan-like leaves are bronze on the sides and yellow at the center. They are robust, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 20 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with bright yellow petals and a light grey central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 17 petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like baby powder.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the light grey flesh is smooth, and the intense blue sap is thin.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
