Spiny Vanilla Cactus
Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)This small cactus grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. It splits randomly along the body to form 5 wide stems. Each stem is moss green, and is covered in hundreds of fine, green, hair-like spines. The round body is lime green, and is covered in many flexible black spines.
It is very slow growing, taking 47 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of violet, grow at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight heart. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like vanilla.
The cactus's skin is thin, the azure flesh is sticky, and the red sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
