Copper Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The fan-like stem is yellow-green and slate, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible pink spines. The wavy, orange trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the top. Its copper branches are short, rigid and upright and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The large amounts of toothed-edged, finger-like leaves are slate with lime tips. They are frail, but take little effort to detach.

It is fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid olive petals decorated with orange lines and a magenta central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of tightly layered narrow petals. It has no scent.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the azure flesh is slimy, and the brown sap is thin.

It only grows on the most fertile lands.
