Savory Thornfruit

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, wonky trunk covered in hard, smooth, light gray bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches are very long and thin and are covered with thick bunches of large, needle-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are peach on the edges and dark red at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, cyan blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like apple.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, 5 pointed fruit. The hairy magenta skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft crimson flesh is extremely savoury and very dry. The yellow seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
