Copper Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 22 feet (6.7 meters) tall. The pleated stem is copper, and is covered in thick sheets of flexible hazel spines. The thick, bronze trunk can grow to as much as 22 feet (6.7 meters) in diameter. Its emerald branches are short, rigid and upright.

The tattered-edged, perforated leaves are solid cream with purple streaks. They are frail, and detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of turquoise and florescent purple, with a brown central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with 17 tightly layered narrow petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the orange flesh is sticky, and the azure sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
