This gray moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In moorlands.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps, and is extremely robust; it is very difficult to kill.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release hundred of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
